Dog
by Zayase Hayes had just about enough of it. He was tired of helping people getting out of odd situations. About three hours ago, he had to help Ice get his head out of a hole in the fence near the city square. The genius decided that it was smart to stick his head in the hole just so he could flirt with a girl who was on the other side. Why he didn't go around the fence to do it, will forever be a mystery. Hayes knew that he was probably one of the smartest of the Blizzards, but that didn't mean that he had to be the brain for the entire gang. Exhausted and a bit frustrated, he plopped onto the bed and decided to get some rest. The rest of the gang was out doing something or another, but he didn't really care at that point. He wanted to relax. No more gang members getting their heads stuck in holes, or feet stuck in buckets, or any other random body parts stuck where they really shouldn't be (He didn't want to remember King's most recent situation...), today was his day to rest. About five minutes into trying to sleep, someone jumped on the bed and lay beside him. Hayes smiled and wrapped an arm around the warm body. It always pleased him to know that his lover and best friend Clovis would know that something was wrong and came to comfort him. The older man shuffled a little closer to him. The slow and steady heartbeat in his ears almost lulled him to sleep, but something wasn't quite right. His heart was beating a little...too slow. "Hmmm...Clovis, you have a slow heartbeat..." Hayes said sleepily, yet seductively. "Shall I fix that?" His fingers slowly ran across his lover's body. Now something definitely wasn't right. Instead of feeling soft, smooth skin, he felt coarse, dry hair. Hayes immediately opened his eyes and propped himself up on the bed. His eyes met big brown ones and a pair of ears that would flap up and down occasionally. Its tongue hung from its mouth as it started to breathe harder. Hayes continued to look at the creature in shock. "You're....not Clovis..." As if summoned, Clovis came down the stairs reading a large book in his hands. He glanced up for a second, and then looked up again with wide eyes at his friend and the animal next to him. The doctor closed the book and smiled. "Oh, I see you've met Matt finally," he said with slight amusement in his voice. Hayes, still with the shocked look, turned to Clovis and suddenly his face morphed into an expression of confusion. "Who?" he asked. "Matt. I'm surprised that you didn't know about him until now. He's been around for about three days now." Clovis raised an eyebrow studied his lover's expression. "In case you don't know, Hayes, he's a dog..." "I know what he is, Clovis, but what's he doing here?" "He belongs to Button, actually. King said it was ok for him to keep him." The higher ranking Blizzard sighed and shook his head. "He really does spoil that boy..." The two men stayed there in silence for a few minutes. Matt whimpered and attempted to lick Hayes, but the man flinched and moved out of the way. Clovis slightly cocked his head to the side. Did his friend hate dogs, or didn't get along with them? Or maybe... The doctor continued to study his behavior. It was then that the question came up. "Hayes?" Clovis started to ask. "Are you....afraid of dogs?" "It's not that I'm afraid of them..." He tried to push Matt away, for the animal was very desperate for attention. "I'm...just cautious.." "Cautious?" "Y..Yes..." Matt decided to give up and curled on his side of the bed. Hayes sighed in relief. "When I was smaller, I was bitten by a stray dog. Luckily it wasn't mad or anything of the sort..." Hayes got off the bed and walked over to the younger male. His hand caressed Clovis's face slowly and he looked deeply into his grey eyes. "Or I wouldn't be here with you now." Clovis smiled and proceeded to move his lips closer to his lover's. Everything was interrupted when a young voice pierced the air. "Matt! Matt! Where are you, boy?!" The two men regretfully broke away from each other and pretended to do something productive. Clovis went back to reading his medical text and Hayes took his Bible out from underneath the bed and flipped to a random page. The door slowly opened and a young boy entered the room. Matt barked and ran to his owner, tail wagging wildly. Button petted the dog and looked at the older Blizzards. They both looked like they were hiding something, but Button chose to ignore the situation. "Come on, boy! Let's go!" he said as he left the room. Matt obeyed and followed. -Top-
